Radioactive Material Use

Clinicians who desire to use radioactive materials for patient applications need to apply for authorization from the Radiation Safety Committee. The Committee reviews the training and experience of the clinician with regard to the use of radioactive materials, the proposed use of radioactive material to determine that the work in within the conditions and limitation of the federal and state licenses, that the facilities and equipment are adequate to perform the work safely, and that the procedures are conducted to minimize the risk of the exposure and containment.

Applications are available on the Authorization Process page on the Radiation Safety Office webpage and must be submitted to the RSO. Clinicians that have been approved to use radioactive materials in patient applications have the responsibility for adhering to any conditions of approval and for complying with the radiation safety program.
